Region:

San Joaquin County

In the southern half of the massive Central Valley, the San Joaquin Valley grows grapes for more than 60 percent of all wine produced in California. A vast swathe of sun-kissed fertile land where fruits, vegetables, cotton, nuts and cattle are all grown, the San Joaquin Valley is an important agricultural region with significant winegrowing operations. With its hot, dry Mediterranean climate, grapes with higher natural acidity perform best here. Grenache, Tempranillo and Zinfandel shine, as do white grapes such as Chenin Blanc, Sémillon and Chardonnay.
